Hyundai Motor Co. said Oct. 9, 2001 it may build an auto plant in the United States. It hopes the plant will broaden market share in the United States and "alleviate" trade disputes between the United States and South Korea. Hyundai Motor said it is con-sidering the possibility and no final decision has been reached. Hyundai Chief Executive Kim Dongjin left for the United States Tuesday on a six-day trip to study auto market trends and possibly propose the plant to government officials, the company said. It declined to discuss the plant's size and location. Hyundai Motor currently has no manufacturing or assembly plants in the United States. It abandoned an assembly plant built in Canada in 1993.
