General Motors will be able to provide over-the-air software updates to its vehicles by 2020, CEO and chairman Mary Barra told analysts and investors during a Tuesday conference call.

GM has hired A. Charles Thomas as its chief data officer. Thomas recently workes as chief data officer and head of enterprise data and analytics at Wells Fargo, reports the Detroit News.

GM is also testing an active health management system that will assess different vehicle components and alert customers about needed fixes.
