Mitsubishi Corp. (MMC) has started production of its Mirage G4 — also known as the Attrage in other markets — at the vehicle assembly plant of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC), the automaker has announced.

The Mirage G4 is the first model to go into production under the Philippine government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) Program, according to Mitsubishi. By May of this year, the company added, the Mitsubishi Mirage will follow the Mirage G4 into production.

In 2009, and then in May 2016, the MMPC became the first auto company in the Philippines to reach a cumulative production of 500,000 and 600,000 vehicles respectively, according to the company. The plant located in Santa Rosa, in the Laguna province, can produce 50,000 vehicles per year.

In calendar year 2016, MMC posted 59,480 sold units, 12.9% more than in the previous year, and its highest sales volume in 10 consecutive years.
