FCA US is recalling 53,155 2016-model year Dodge Dart cars because the windshield wipers might fail, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

Because of voltage spikes triggered by a windshield washer pump problem, the windshield wiper circuit in these cars may falter and cause the wipers to malfunction, according to NHTSA. The recall covers Dodge Dart cars manufactured from April 13, 2015, to June 7, 2016.

“Without functioning windshield wipers, the driver’s visibility may be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash,” NHTSA warned on its website.

Dodge dealers will replace the windshield washer pumps, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Dec. 19.

Vehicle owners can reach FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) customer service at (800) 853-1403. FCA’s number for this recall is S83.
