Nissan North America is recalling 1,754 2017-model year Versa cars because the side curtain air bags may not deploy properly during a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall covers Versa cars manufactured Aug. 1-16 of this year. In these vehicles, a seam in the fabric section of the side curtain air bags may tear during deployment and affect performance. As a result, the cars don’t comply with all federal safety standards.

Nissan dealers will replace the left and right side curtain air bags, free of charge. Vehicle owners can reach Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
