Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling 82,436 2015-2016 model-year Outlander Sport and 2016-MY Outlander and Lancer vehicles equipped with a continously variable transmission (CVT), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

In certain driving conditions, the CVT may cause a vehicle acceleration delay that poses a safety risk, NHTSA said on its website.

Dealers will reprogram the CVT control unit with modified software, free of charge. The recall began Aug. 15.

Vehicle owners can reach Mitsubishi customer service at (888) 648-7820. The automaker’s number for this recall is SR-16-006.
