Ford Motor Co. is issuing a safety compliance recall for 605 2016 model-year Ford Transit Connect vehicles because a potential pump problem might affect the brake hydraulic control unit, the automaker said.

Reduced pump performance of the brake hydraulic control unit might diminish electronic stability control and related systems, including roll stability control, the anti-lock braking system, emergency brake assist, curve control, trailer sway control, traction control, and hill start assist performance. Problems might arise without warning, increasing the risk of a crash, Ford said in a released statement.

The recall covers vehicles built at the Valencia Assembly Plant from Feb. 22 through April 9 of this year. Dealers will replace the brake hydraulic control unit, free of charge.

Additionally, three Transit Connects will be recalled in Canada for the same issue.
