Nissan North America is recalling 298,747 Versa Sedans in the 2012-2015 model years and Versa Note hatchbacks in the 2014-2015 model years because a console trim panel might interfere with the driver’s braking.

When the driver goes to brake, the panel may catch his or her shoe and delay the foot’s movement from accelerator pedal to brake pedal, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall covers Versa cars manufactured from June 9, 2011, to March 11 of this year, and Versa Note hatchbacks manufactured from April 23, 2013, to March 11 of this year.

Nissan dealers will modify the console trim panel, free of charge, to resolve the problem. The recall is expected to begin by mid-October.

Vehicle owners can reach Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
