Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is recalling 5,586 2015 model-year Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans because their doors may be difficult to open following a major frontal collision, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

The recall is set to get under way in March. It involves vans manufactured last year, from July 1 to Oct. 14. The abutting wedge, a component attached to the door jam to make opening the door easier after a frontal crash, may have been installed incorrectly, NHTSA said.

Sprinter dealers will check the installation of the abutting wedge and make any needed repairs. There will be no charge for the service.

Vehicle owners can reach Sprinter customer service at (877) 762-8267.
