The Ford Motor Co. has elevated its top engineer to lead Lincoln as the automaker attempts to revitalize its luxury nameplate.

Kumar Galhotra takes over the dual roles of vice president and president of Lincoln. He replaces Paul Mascarenas, who is retiring as chief technical officer and vice president of research and advanced engineering. Mascarenas is retiring Oct. 1.

Galhotra, who will start his new role on Sept. 1, steps into a new dedicated position. He will report directly to Mark Fields, Ford's new president and CEO. Galhotra will oversee product development, marketing, sales and service for Lincoln.

Jim Holland will succeed Galhotra as vice president of vehicle component and systems engineering.
