Three Ford models topped the list of the 10 most stolen sport-utility vehicles according to a report released today by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB).

The top five stolen models included the Ford Escape, Ford Edge, Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Kia Sorento respectively. The bureau analyzed thefts of 2011, 2012, and 2013 model-year vehicles that were reported between 2010 and 2013. During that time, 21,711 insured SUVs were reported stolen.

Models stolen included 1,421 Escape compact SUVs, 1,140 Edge mid-size SUVs, 958 Explorer mid-size SUVs, 912 Grand Cherokee mid-size SUVs, and 725 Sorento mid-size SUVs.

The bureau also identified California as the top state for SUV thefts with 3,531. Florida (1,897), Michigan (1,834), Texas (1,686), and New York (1,577) rounded out the list.

When broken out by type, compact SUVs were the most stolen with 6,981, followed by 3,206 large SUVs and 3,204 mid-size SUVs.
