Volkswagen will soon recall about 150,200 Passat vehicles from the 2012 and 2013 model years so dealers can replace a fitting for the low-beam headlight bulbs, the automaker said.

In certain instances, when someone slams or drops the hood down and the vehicle vibrates as a result, this impact can cause a low-beam headlight bulb to lose electrical contact and trigger a warning light in the instrument cluster. The low-beam bulb may dim, leading to reduced visibility, Volkswagen said.

To resolve the problem, Volkswagen dealers will install an improved bulb fitting. Additionally, they will inspect and, if necessary, adjust or replace the hood bumpers to help prevent the hood from contacting the headlight assembly. There will be no charge for this service.

Volkswagen said it is unaware of any crashes or injuries tied to the problem. The company has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the recall plans.
