Registrations of new commercial vehicles in Class 3-8 fell to 78,700 in Canada during 2013 for a 5.7 percent decline from the county's record year in 2012, according to Polk.

Class 3 vehicles represent the strongest segment of the Canadian market, rising 2.8 percent in 2013. They made up 40 percent of new-vehicle registrations in the country.

Class 8 heavy-duty trucks, which make up 37.6 percent of the market, fell 11.7 percent from 2012. Class 8 came in as the second largest category. Class 4-7 trucks also fell in each gross-vehicle weight category. Class 5 medium-duty trucks, the third largest segment with 8.9 percent, fell only 0.2% in 2013.

Ford led seven brands in the Canadian market with 25 percent of new registrations. The automaker also dominated the U.S. market in 2013. Polk is now owned by IHS, a Colorado-based source of analytical business information.
