Barnes, 54, held several roles with Volkswagen before departing for General Motors, where he served as vice president of sales, marketing, and aftersales for GM's international operations.

When he left Volkswagen, Barnes was vice president of customer experience. He held several other leadership roles in his earlier tenure with the automaker.

Previously, Barnes was director of Chrysler's western region business center and vice president of national sales at Hyundai North America.
