In a statement, President Obama congratulated Anthony Foxx on his confirmation to the position of Secretary of Transportation, succeeding outgoing secretary Ray LaHood.

“Anthony knows firsthand that investing in our roads, bridges and transit systems is vital to creating good jobs and ensuring American businesses can grow and compete in a 21st century global economy,” the President said. “I welcome Anthony to my team, and I look forward to working with him as we aim to modernize the infrastructure that powers our economy.”

Foxx was the current mayor of Charlotte, N.C. Part of the reason for his selection as Transportation Secretary was his focus on investment in transportation infrastructure in the Charlotte area.
