TREVOSE, PA – The CEI Group (CEI) offered free biometric screenings and prizes at its second annual employee Health Fair last month to encourage a focus on preventative health care.

More than 40 percent of CEI’s workforce took advantage of the fair, co-sponsored with United HealthCare, the company’s health insurance provider.

Participants in the fair, held during working hours, underwent free cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, body mass index and body fat percentage screenings. The dangers of drunk driving were driven home by a sobriety test while wearing “fatal vision goggles,” which simulate visual impairment from a blood alcohol two to three times the legal limit.

“We’re trying to encourage employees to realize that keeping themselves healthy is better than curing an illness, for themselves, their families and co-workers,” said Kathy Latzko, CEI’s director of human resources. She said the fair was also part of the company’s efforts to help minimize or eliminate increases in future health insurance premiums that the company and its employees share in paying.

Raffle prizes and their winners were:

• Kindle Touch – Michelle Cannell
• MP3 Player – Aida Rrokaj
• $50 Visa Gift Cards – Keith Quinlan, Vance Tshudy, Dwayne Thompson and Brian Redanauer
• United Health Care Yoga Mat and Tote Bag –Jennifer Maddox

Karen Meehan, CEI human resources representative and fair organizer, said the fair was open to all employees, regardless of whether they participate in the United HealthCare plan. “We want all of our employees to be sure they’re taking the best care of themselves they can,” she said.
