WAYNE, PA - Josie Sharp, CAFM, fleet manager for Shire US Inc., announced that she will retire Dec. 31, 2011. Sharp, who was the 2003 AF Professional Fleet Manager of the Year, joined Shire Pharmaceuticals in 2007.

Sharp has had a wide variety of experiences in fleet management in both the corporate and public sectors. Previously, Sharp was Director, Bureau of Vehicle Management for the Department of General Services for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 2003 to 2007. Sharp managed a State fleet of approximately 16,000 vehicles. Sharp was named to the position in 2003, shortly after winning the 2003 AF Professional Fleet Manager of the Year Award.

Sharp won the Professional Fleet Manager of the Year Award for her work as fleet and safety manager for Aventis Pharmaceuticals in Bridgewater, N.J., where she managed a fleet of 6,000 vehicles. Sharp worked as fleet manager for Aventis from 2000 to 2003. Aventis was created from a merger of Hoescht Marion Roussel and Rhone Poulenc Rorer. Prior to Rhone Poulenc Rorer, Sharp managed a sales and service fleet for Bell & Howell from 1987-1995, where she began her career in fleet management.

She has been an active member of the Philadelphia NAFA Chapter for more than 20 years and served twice as chapter chair, in addition to serving individual terms as vice chair, treasurer, and various committee chairs. Sharp was influential in the decision to hold the NAFA I&E in Philadelphia for the first time in 2003. She also served on the national NAFA Board of Governors for several years.

“I have numerous plans for retirement that include spending more time with family and friends, especially my 20-month-old grandson, traveling, improving my golf handicap, taking college courses for fun and personal enrichment, volunteering for several of my favorite organizations, and fleet management consulting,” said Sharp. “It has been a great ride!”
