SARASOTA, FL – Tom Lyon, retired national account manager – passenger cars for GM Fleet & Commercial Operations, passed away Oct. 22 from a heart attack at his home in Sarasota, Fla. He was 67. Lyon graduated from Flint Central High School, Mich., in 1959, and obtained his bachelors degree from Michigan State University. He retired from General Motors in1998. The last 10 years of his career with GM were spent in GM fleet and government sales. Lyon worked in the Buick Division Fleet Department prior to its merger into GM Fleet & Commercial Operations.

In 2003, Lyon moved to Sarasota, Fla., where he was an avid golfer and fisherman. Lyon is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Michael Root; Laura Yeros; Lynn Root; and Lisa Swinehart; 11 grandchildren; brother, William Lyon; and sisters, Shirley McBride and Deeana Mills. 

“Tom Lyon was a unique, caring person and could make things happen in business. He was the real deal!!  It's a huge loss for his family and his many friends in the car business,” said Lyle Pennington, former Western Regional manager, Buick Motor Division.
