December 18, 2007

MIAMI BEACH, FL – Hybrid vehicles will soon get preferred parking in Miami Beach. City commissioners have approved parking discounts and some special spaces for drivers with hybrid vehicles, according to the Web site Officials said it’s the first ordinance of its kind in Florida.

Six spaces will be reserved for hybrid vehicles at a municipal parking garage in Mid-Beach, starting next month. Officials said more spaces could be added at other city garages.

Starting Jan. 15, city residents who own hybrid vehicles will get a 25-percent discount on neighborhood parking permits. Hybrid owners who live outside Miami Beach can get a 25 percent discount on monthly parking at city garages and lots. Hybrid vehicles will also be eligible for on-street parking decals that can be used at metered spaces or city surface lots.
