Governor Signs New Mexico Indemnification Clause Law

April 16, 2007

ALBURQUERUE, N.M. – New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson signed into law Senate Bill 69 on Apr. 4, 2007, including an amendment requested by TRALA that would allow motor vehicle lease and rental contracts to include broad form indemnification clauses. As introduced earlier this year, the bill would have prohibited all lease contracts from including such clauses. TRALA, working with the New Mexico Trucking Association, was successful in amending the bill to exempt motor vehicle lease contracts from the prohibitions in the legislation.
