WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 500,000 Ford Escape SUVs in response to reports of engine fires linked to corrosion on antilock brake connectors. The recall involves 444,880 Escapes from the 2001-2004 model years in the U.S. and about 75,000 Escapes in Canada, Mexico and Europe, according to an Associated Press report. The recall doesn't affect any Escape hybrids. There have reportedly been about 50 engine fires associated with the problems, but no accidents or injuries have resulted. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the connector and ABS module if needed.
