NAFA to Celebrate 50th Anniversary in 2007

September 26, 2006

ISELIN, NJ – The National Association of Fleet Administrators, Inc. (NAFA) will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2007.

In 1957, a group of fleet management professionals recognized the need of a professional membership society, and, thus, NAFA was born. John Limpert was elected NAFA’s first president, and NAFA’s Code of Regulations was developed. NAFA’s first annual conference took place in Detroit in March 1958. Topics covered at the conference included leasing and ownership, Chrysler’s organizational changes, insurance, new- and used-car dealer operations, safety, and small cars.

“As we celebrate our past, let us also celebrate our future that is filled with exciting challenges and opportunities, never forgetting the initiative and innovation shown by our founders back in 1957,” said Charles A. Gibbens, Jr., NAFA’s current president and fleet manager for the County of Henrico, Va.
