Alfson Wins NAFA's Excellence in Education Award

June 13, 2006

ISELIN, NJ – Ruth Alfson, CAFM, manager, Center of Excellence, with the Serco Group, Inc. in Dayton, Ohio, became just the third person in the history of the National Association of Fleet Administrators, Inc. (NAFA) to earn the Excellence in Education Award. The award was presented to Alfson at the Association’s Fleet Management — Law Enforcement Group Conference held in early May in Orlando, Fla. The annual conference draws fleet managers from across the United States and Canada and is considered the fleet industry event of the year. The Excellence in Education Award is a formal recognition of outstanding service to NAFA’s educational efforts and is bestowed only upon nomination and clear proof of worthiness. Alfson’s nomination was based on her efforts over the past 10 years, which included work on NAFA’s Certified Automotive Fleet Manager program, the Fleet Management Seminar, the FMI-LEG Conference, Project FleetED, and several other groundbreaking education products. Alfson earned her CAFM designation in 1996 and currently serves on the NAFA Board of Trustees as the Central Region Trustee. She has served NAFA in a number of positions, most notably chair of the Certification Board, chair of the Chicago Chapter of NAFA in 1999, and as chair of the Curriculum Committee for the 2002 Fleet Management Institute. She is currently an instructor at the Fleet Management Seminars and has participated on the development teams for such NAFA products as the Fleet Cost Allocation Guide, the Fleet Acquisition and Disposal Guide, and Project WebEd. Alfson’s department at the Serco Group supports the data analysis and performance standards tracking for all internal Serco fleet operations. Alfson previously held the position of fleet manager for Exelon in Illinois, Follett Corporation in Illinois, and for Seminole County in Florida, where she was awarded the Quarterly Teamwork Award.
