AT Home Care Switches from Reimbursement to Company-Provided Vehicles to Recruit & Retain Employees

February 28, 2006

RICHMOND, VA – Advanced Technologies in Home Care, Inc. (AT Home Care), a private home health care company, is counting on the delivery of 32 new Chevrolet HHRs to help the company attract and retain the best quality workers, and control operating expenses. In addition to providing cars for its full-time field staff of clinicians, AT Home Care will cover gas, insurance, and vehicle maintenance.

Switching from a mileage reimbursement program to having a fleet of vehicles was a major change for the company. According to Ed Kassab, president and CEO of AT Home Care, providing company cars to full-time employees will give his company an advantage in a competitive industry.

“Having company provided vehicles benefits employees, as well as the company,” said Kassab. “In addition to enhancing employee satisfaction, great looking vehicles help promote the company’s professional image in traffic and while parked in a client’s driveway, which can attract the attention of prospective employees and future customers.”

Kassab credits the local office of Enterprise Fleet Services with helping him make a smooth transition to acquiring a fleet of vehicles for the first time. Enterprise also provides full-service fleet management for businesses with mid-size fleets. This includes a maintenance management program, as well as a fuel card program that can help monitor fuel purchases and mileage for each vehicle.

Business owners often are faced with deciding which is better for their company, as well as their employees. Experts agree that the answer encompasses not only financial considerations, but also a range of “hidden” costs. These include human resources, sales and marketing, safety, recruitment and retention, all of which must be understood and their importance acknowledged.

For example, with a fleet management program, making one payment to a single leasing company and participating in a managed maintenance program can be much more efficient than handling numerous invoices and expense reports that need authorization for reimbursement.

Another consideration is employee productivity. With a fleet management program, companies can ensure vehicles are properly equipped with the latest safety features. This can translate into reducing accidents and injuries, decreased downtime and absences, and ultimately, better productivity.

With offices in Richmond, Fredricksburg, Charlottesville, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and Colonial Heights, AT Home Care also was concerned about how having a fleet could help control operating expenses. By working with Enterprise, Kassab established a separate line of credit to fund the vehicles instead tying up resources that can be allocated for expanding business opportunities and increasing personnel.
