Enterprise Fleet Services Purchases Wind Power for New Green Building

February 15, 2005

ST. LOUIS — Enterprise Fleet Services, a fleet management company for businesses with mid-size fleets, announced on February 9 that it has shown its commitment to sustainable building practices by purchasing American Wind for its new 29,087 square-foot operations center in St. Louis. Enterprise's purchase will promote the further development of renewable energy resources, decrease harmful pollutants and lessen our dependence on fossil fuels. Using wind power is an important part of sustainable building. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the conventional way we produce electricity, is the leading cause of industrial air pollution. Wind power offers a clean, cost-effective alternative. Enterprise, in cooperation with its project team and building partners, is purchasing wind power in an attempt to earn LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for its new fleet operations center, which also qualifies for the new Commercial Interiors (CI) category for leased space. The LEED Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED provides a complete framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals. Based on scientific standards, LEED emphasizes strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. American Wind is a blend of wind power certificates from new wind farms nationwide. Wind power certificates represent clean, renewable energy produced from domestic wind farms, including all emission offsets. By purchasing American Wind, consumers have a direct impact on how our country produces energy. American Wind is 'Green-e' certified, meeting the highest environmental and consumer protection standards. Wind power is the fastest growing source of energy in the country. Each time an electricity user chooses American Wind, the mix of energy in the national grid becomes cleaner for everyone.
