Washington State Freezes Purchase of 4x4 SUVs and Shifts to Hybrid Vehicles

OLYMPIA, WA — Washington Gov. Gary Locke announced on December 28 a freeze on state government purchase of four-wheel-drive sports/utility vehicles, according to the Associated Press. The state motor pool will begin shifting to hybrid vehicles. In addition, Gov. Locke announced a proposal to adopt California's auto emission standards, effective the 2009-model year.
