HOS Rulemaking Published on Jan. 24 in Federal Register

January 25, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to address truckers’ hours of service (HOS) regulations was published in the Federal Register on Jan. 24, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). However, the comment period will be shortened to a Mar. 10 deadline, because of the expedited schedule for completing the HOS rulemaking. The agency also noted that the current HOS rules would remain in effect no later than Sept. 30, 2005 under the terms of the Surface Transportation Act of 2004.
