CALSTART Conference Changes Location

November 30, 2004

PASADENA, CA — Due to great uncertainty over labor issues at the Wilshire Grand Hotel, which include the issuance of a boycott and the possibility of a strike, CALSTART has changed the location of its “2020: California´s Transportation Energy Future” conference. Please note that while the location of the event has changed, no other aspect of the event has been modified. CALSTART´s new location for its “2020: California´s Transportation Energy Future” conference and Blue Sky Awards luncheon will be the Art Center College of Design´s new South Campus Facility in Pasadena. This former aircraft-testing facility, just re-opened and renovated, will serve as the backdrop for the organization´s discussion on California´s transportation energy future. The 19,000-square-foot “Coop Wind Tunnel,” which was originally built by five aircraft companies in 1942, contributed to the development of postwar commercial and military aircraft from 1945 to 1960. The Art Center College of Design acquired the building in 2001 as the first phase of its overall expansion plan. The following information will help to answer any questions about the facility´s location, accessibility, as well as nearby accommodations:The “Wind Tunnel” will serve as the location for both the conference as well as the Blue Sky Awards luncheon. It is located on Raymond Avenue at Glenarm Street in the center of Pasadena, with easy access to the 110 freeway. This facility is also located next to Pasadena´s new Goldline Metro, which CALSTART encourages as transportation means to the event. A map indicating the Art Center´s South Campus location, which is on the lower right side of the map, can be found at reservations have already been made at the conference´s previous location, shuttles have been arranged for pickup in the morning, to the event in Pasadena, and delivery back to the hotel. Conversely, the Gold Line Metro can be taken from downtown directly to the Art Center. Take the 7th St Metro Center Redline Station from Downtown to Union Station, transfer to the Gold line, then exit at the Fillmore Goldline Station. From there, it is a short three-minute walk to the Art Center. Total transit time is approximately 35 minutes. If accommodations have not already been arranged or would like to move to a closer location, a limited number of rooms are available at the Sheraton Pasadena (626) 449-4000 or the Westin Pasadena (626) 792-2727 for $199 each. Additional lodging options can be found at Mention that you are visiting the Art Center when you make your reservation, for many Pasadena hotels offer a discount for Art Center visitors. For guests flying to this event CALSTART recommends flying into the Burbank airport.
