Air-Trak Adds Geofencing to its
Cloudberry Mobile Resource Management System
Air-Trak, Inc., a developer of location, tracking and messaging systems that support a combination of communications platforms and wireless networks, announced on October 18 the availability of geofencing on its Cloudberry mobile resource management system.
Fleets using Cloudberry geofencing simply enter the coordinates or address of a landmark, such as a building or street. A circular geofence is created around the landmark with a user-defined perimeter. When a vehicle enters or exits the area, an automatic alert is sent with the date and time it crossed the geofence. The signal can be used for such purposes as to confirm a delivery, to trigger an alarm and to create exception reports. Alerts appear on-screen and by email, pager or mobile phone.
Geofencing is a component of Cloudberry’s event management system. Any user-defined event, such as a sensor reading, door opening, or pump activation, can be used to generate alerts and create exception reports. This makes it easier to manage large fleets where direct supervision of each worker is not feasible. Customers and third-party developers can access event alerts though Cloudberry’s XML-based Web-services API for custom applications.
Air-Trak’s advanced dynamic geofencing, available in early 2005, will enable users to create geofences of arbitrary shapes with hours of operation, velocity and direction. For example, geofences will be able to move with changing weather or traffic conditions, alerting management and drivers when vehicles approach those conditions. By specifying hours of operation, management will be able to track vehicles within a geographic boundary during set hours, which can be used to monitor such things as border crossings for homeland security.
