NAFA Supports Extension on Amendments to Spill Prevention Control Rule

July 13, 2004

The National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) has joined with other organizations to support EPA's decision to extend the compliance dates for the August 2002 Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) rule amendments. In a group letter to EPA, NAFA and others said, "extension of the looming August 17, 2004, plan amendment and February 18, 2005, plan implementation deadlines is necessary in order to accommodate the rulemaking and guidance initiatives EPA is engaged in order to address several key outstanding SPCC program issues."The letter urged EPA to consider a longer extension, "In lieu of the proposed one year extension, EPA should adopt an extension of at least eighteen months or six months after the issuance of an interim final or final rule(s) on the outstanding issues of concern, whichever is later."
