Mitsubishi Motors North America has upgraded its three-year bumper-to-bumper new vehicle warranty to five years/60,000 miles. The new warranty is in addition to the 10-year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty and a three-year/45,000 mile free maintenance policy, according to an article in Automotive News on July 2. The warranties and maintenance program apply to all 2004 Mitsubishi models. The warranties are permanent, says Mitsubishi's marketing chief Ian Beavis. He says the free maintenance program is due to expire at the end of August. Finbarr O'Neill, CEO of Mitsubishi, came from Hyundai Motor America, where similar warranty programs are credited for that company's turnaround.
