EPA Extends Spill Prevention Control Deadline

June 28, 2004

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) postponed the effective date of new Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC) rules. The rules were to go into effect this August. EPA extended by twelve months the compliance deadline for fleets and other facilities with aboveground storage capacity to file amended plans to control potential releases from aboveground storage containers. According to the EPA extension, a facility must file an amended plan on or before August 17, 2005, and begin implementing the amended plan no later than February 18, 2006.
