LeasePlan Corp. and Athlon Holding signed a letter of intent to acquire full ownership of Unilease, one of Holland's top 10 leasing companies, according to Fleet Europe magazine. Athlon Holding (car leasing and car body repair) and ABN Amro have each held 50 percent of the share capital of Unilease since 1969. Following the takeover, which should take effect no later than June 30, 2004, Athlon will have full ownership of Unilease, both in Belgium and the Netherlands. The plan is to merge Unilease and Athlon Car Lease in Belgium and in the Netherlands. Both mergers should be completed within 2 years. The lease portfolio is made up of 24,000 contracts (4,000 in Belgium and 20,000 in the Netherlands). Following the takeover, Athlon Car Lease will have a total of 93,000 contracts (25,000 in Belgium and 68,000 in the Netherlands).
