Obese Fleet Driver Re-instated Following Termination

January 26, 2004

A 412-lb. truck driver who said he was fired by USF Holland on Jan. 15, 2004, because he could not fit behind the wheel of a delivery truck was rehired by the company and offered a larger tractor truck that could physically accommodate him. USF Holland apologized to the driver — Walter Geter — blaming the termination on a misunderstanding by both parties. Geter also received back pay from USF Holland to cover the time he was out of work.
