N.J. to Provide Authenticity Letter With New Driver’s License

January 5, 2004

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission will provide letters of authenticity to recipients of the new digitized driver's licenses next month, the Associated Press reported on December 29. Officials are concerned the redesigned licenses, which feature holograms, special ink and second photo visible only under ultraviolet light, will be mistaken as fake by people who routinely check identification, AP said. Under a $7.5 million program, the state will begin issuing the new licenses to the public on Jan. 8. However, all drivers do not have to get the digital license until their current license expires.
