LA City Council Endorses Ban Against Driving With Hand-Held Cell Phone

January 12, 2004

The Los Angeles City Council voted January 8 to support a proposal in the state legislature to ban use of cell phones by drivers statewide and will study the feasibility of a citywide ban. Council members will also explore a law prohibiting city workers from using city-issued cell phones while driving.During discussion, Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski said the city should consider its own law. "I think this is important enough that we should look at making this a law in the city and not wait for the state," she said.
