OH Lawmaker Proposes Fleet Cuts

June 2, 2003

Representative Chris Widener (R-Springfield) created a proposal to reduce the state’s fleet of more than 12,000 vehicles by 58 percent, reported The Associated Press. The plan, which would exclude law enforcement, would save more than $37 million in the next two-year budget. The Ohio Department of Administrative Services would be in charge of the plan, but the agency says the cuts are too deep. Department Director Scott Johnson stated that Widener’s proposal goes beyond the recommendations of a depart-ment study done last year. The plan was included in the budget version passed by the House and was sent to the Senate.
