The national average price of gasoline (regular unleaded, incl. taxes) snapped an eight-week streak of decreases on May 19, rising less than a penny to $1.498 from $1.491 the previous week, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The marginal rise marked the first time in two months that average prices haven’t dropped since hitting a 2003 high of $1.73 per gallon on March 17. The national average declined 24 cents per gallon over that period.
