Volvo XC90 Earns Good & Best Pick Ratings from IIHS

April 28, 2003

The 2003 Volvo XC90 sport/utility vehicles recently earned good overall ratings and "best pick" designations in a series of crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).Good overall and best pick are the IIHS's highest ratings. The IIHS evaluates the crashworthiness of passenger vehicles in 40 mph frontal offset crash tests into a deformable barrier and assigns each vehicle a rating from good overall to poor."[The XC90] was a very good performer across the board in our frontal offset crash test," said IIHS President Brian O'Neill. "The occupant compartment held up very well."O'Neill added that all of the measures recorded on an instrumented dummy indicated that significant injuries would be unlikely to occur in real-world crashes of comparable severity.
