Texas Red Light Photo Enforcement Bill Passes

March 25, 2003

The Texas House Committee on Transportation passed a bill that will allow municipalities to implement red light enforcement cameras at traffic signals. Municipalities will be able to hold drivers caught on camera running red lights and send a citation to the registered owner via mail. The Texas Department of Transportation estimates the program will bring in approximately $425 million in revenue over the next five years.
