Toyota Motor Sales USA has delivered more than 130 units of its hybrid electric-gas car, the Prius, to the City of Los Angeles. The agreement to purchase the vehicles began in 2002 with an initial order of 23 units. Since that time, the fleet has proved very successful and the city has increased its Prius fleet size to the current level, with plans to purchase more vehicles in the future. Los Angeles city service technicians attended a training course developed by the University of Toyota's Technical and Body Training Development department. This course covered Prius operation and proper maintenance of the hybrid system. Along with Los Angeles, government agencies across the U.S. have chosen Prius for its fleets, including California, Washington, Houston, Oregon, San Francisco, Denver, and Maine.
