General Motors announced August 12 that it is considering a coupe and a convertible for the redesigned Pontiac Grand Am, said Robert Lutz, vice chairman for product development. According to the company, the 2005 Grand Am will be redesigned on Epsilon, GM's new global architecture for front-drive mid-sized cars. The new Opel Vectra went on sale in Europe this year and marks Epsilon's debut. The Saab 9-3 sedan, says the company, will be the first Epsilon car sold in the United States. The 2004 Chevrolet Malibu will be the first U.S.-produced vehicle off the Epsilon architecture, followed by the Grand Am and then an unnamed replacement for the Saturn L Series that GM officials say will not be a sedan.
