Moorby Resigns from ADESA to Pursue Other Interests

July 2, 2002

ADESA Corp. announced July 2 that Tony Moorby has resigned after serving the company for almost two years as executive vice president. Moorby said he will pursue other interests.A native of London, England, Moorby began his automotive career as a management trainee for the Bristol Street Automotive Group, a large vehicle retail and distribution company in London. After being promoted to general manager of Bristol Street, Moorby left and joined British Car Auction Group as deputy sales director. In 1982, when Michael J. Richardson came to the United States to launch Anglo American Auto Auctions, Moorby joined him as vice president of sales, later adding marketing to his responsibilities. In 1994, Anglo American Auto Auctions changed its name to ADT Automotive and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Tyco International, Ltd. In 1997, Moorby was promoted to chief operating officer and later assumed the position of president and CEO of ADT Automotive in 1998. In 2000, after Indianapolis-based ADESA Corp. acquired eight ADT auctions, Moorby joined ADESA as executive vice president."During his tenure at ADESA, Tony played a key role in transitioning the former ADT auctions into the ADESA family," said Brian Warner, president of ADESA Corp. "I can honestly say that had Tony not been with ADESA during this significant time, we would not be as well positioned in the industry as we are now. For me personally, Tony has been a good friend and a great sounding board. Although I will see him less, I will always consider him a friend of Brian Warner and ADESA."Moorby's dedication to the automotive industry is reflected in his efforts to raise the professional standards of auto auctions in the United States. The National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA) acknowledged him in 1996 with induction into the association's Ring of Honor, an award that recognizes individuals who have shown leadership and vision in the growth and development of the used-car industry. In 2000, Moorby was added to the National Auto Auction Association's (NAAA) Hall of Fame in recognition of his countless hours of professional service and dedication.
