The National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) will release the latest edition of its Truck Equipment Handbook in May 2002. The pocket-size guide references all the various formulas involved in matching chassis and bodies, center of gravity, wheelbase, and fifth wheel location, as well as weights of commodities, metric conversion charts, and illustrations of federal lighting standards. Last published in 1999, the 2002 edition includes a comprehensive glossary of truck equipment terminology; component descriptions; application and installation considerations and requirements; and basic engineering calculations (such as payload analysis, weight distribution, and center of gravity calculations) — all with charts, graphs, diagrams, and illustrations. The Handbook was revised by the NTEA and features many updated standards, including: a lighting guide; tire information section; rear-impact guard information for trailers; Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) summary; and fluid power formulas.
