Consumer demand for longer factory warranties will force the three-year/36,000-mile warranty into extinction within the next few years, according to a study by Innovative Quality Solutions Inc., a Louisville, KY automotive consulting firm, Automotive News reported. Longer warranties promoted by Hyundai, Isuzu, and Kia have consumers giving more consideration to factory warranties when determining which vehicle to purchase. As a result, manufacturers will need to boost their warranty coverage by two years, to five-year/50,000- or 60,000-mile coverage, the study found. The study stated the longer warranty coverage will be the same for both basic and powertrain warranties, even though Hyundai, Isuzu, and Kia offer it on powertrain.
