SAE Explores Rollover Crash Issues

January 3, 2002

The Continuing Professional Development Group of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International) announced a two-day program, the Passenger Vehicle Rollover TOPTEC: Causes, Prevention, and Injury Prevalence, April 22-23, 2002 in Scottsdale, AZ. This program will present the latest developments and ongoing research in passenger car rollover issues.Recent events associated with rollover crash issues have intensified the need to address rollover protection in vehicles. In June 2002, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) proposed a rollover consumer information program based on the static stability factor (SSF=T/2h). This activity subsequently led to a final ruling in January 2001 and a rollover resistance “star” rating incorporated into the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) for a large number of the U.S. vehicle fleet. For more information, contact SAE Customer Sales at (877) 606-7323 or visit the SAE Web site at
