NAFA to File 'Friend of Court' Brief for More Alt-Fuel Fleet Mandates

December 6, 2001

The National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) plans to file a “friend of the court” brief to overturn efforts to add more fleet mandates for alternative-fuel vehicles by the California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD).NAFA trustees voted on Dec. 3 to pursue filing of legal arguments with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. NAFA said it will not enter the debate on the environmental qualities of diesel fuel, but will focus on the effort by some governments to create new fleet mandates.NAFA and the American Automotive Leasing Association are considering partnering in the amicus brief. Legal arguments will be filed in early January.
