Saturn to Name New Small Car ‘Ion’

October 9, 2001

Saturn said it will name a new line of small cars “Ion,” which will go on sale late next year. The Ion will replace the S-Series, which has decreased 12 percent in sales this year. Jill Lajdziak, vice president of Saturn sales, said the Ion would be slightly larger than the S-Series, with all-new parts. It is expected to be based on GM’s Delta small car platform.
