Cell Phone Ban Passed in Pinecrest, FL

October 15, 2001

Pinecrest Mayor Evelyn Greer said that the village council on Tuesday, Oct. 9, unanimously passed a ban on the use of hand-held cell phones while driving. The ban goes into effect immediately. Drivers caught violating the ban will face a small fine, which can be waived if they buy a hands-free phone. Miami-Dade County recently passed a similar law, but it does not go into effect until next year.
