AUBURN HILLS, MI – Chrysler announced that the Detroit Free Press named the automaker’s all-new 2013-MY Ram 1500 the Truck of the Year. Chrysler said the Detroit Free Press’ Mark Phelan explained the publication’s reasoning for this choice.

“Chrysler could have gotten away with a mere face-lift for the 2013 Ram 1500 pickup,” Phelan said. “Instead, it provided a glimpse of the pickup of the future, a truck that combines workhorse capability with fuel efficiency."

Chrysler said that its engineers overhauled every aspect of the truck. The company noted a number of the pickup’s features that contribute to its combination of power and fuel economy, including the 2013 Ram 1500’s fuel economy of 25 mpg, its range of engines, its eight-speed automatic transmission, its stop-start system, thermal management system, active aerodynamics, including grille shutters and active air suspension.

Automotive Fleet magazine also named the 2013 Ram 1500 the Fleet Truck of the Year and Motortrend named the pickup its Truck of the Year.
